5 Blogs That Sold for Big Bucks
In today’s blogging market, even relatively new sites with limited traffic can earn their owners some big bucks should they decide to cash in the opportunity to sell.
For inspiration, it shouldn’t take more than a quick look at this handful of blogs. All of them secured for their former owners a payday of over six figures.
1. Ugo.com - Price tag: $100 million. Sold: 2007.
Unified Gamers Online was founded in 1997 by Chris Sherman Action World Inc. When Hearst Corporation bought it, they paid approximately $100 million.
2. Fotolog.com - Price tag: $90 million. Sold: 2007.
Fotolog receives around 20 million unique visitors a month. It was sold to Hi-Media Group for a whopping $90 million.
3. ConsumerSearch.com - Price tag: $33 million. Sold: 2007.
Here’s further proof that 2007 was a huge year for big ticket blog sales. In addition to the number one and number two placeholders, 2007 saw the sale of ConsumerSearch.com to About.com for a cool $33 million. About.com in turn is owned by New York Times Co.
4. TechCrunch.com - Price tag: $30 million. Sold: 2010.
TechCrunch.com is a big-wig of the technology and gadget niche. That explains its $30 million price tag when it was sold to AOL in 2010.
5. PaidContent.org - Price tag: $30 million. Sold: 2008.
In just six short years PaidContent founder Rafat Ali built up his information, analysis and news website to be worth $30 million. The Guardian Media Group is now the lucky owner.
Think your blog is of little-to-no value because you never managed to monetize it? Think again. It may be valuable to someone out there due to its archive of posts, its unique domain name, its Google PageRank or its potential for traffic.
As the above blogs prove, it can be done. Now it’s up to you to do it.
