The World Wide Web is a veritable smorgasbord of well-written weblogs ready to engage you on every topic imaginable.

Alas, the reverse is also true. The Internet is graveyard to more than its fair share of ill-advised, poorly-planned and badly-written blogs.

To be in the former camp, just follow our top tips:

1. Have An Opinion

If you’ve gone to the trouble of launching a blog, now’s not the time to sit on the fence. Choose an opinion and run with it. Believe it or not people *actually* want to know what you think.

As blog writer Josh Dunlop over at IncomeDiary.com writes: “I personally relate more to people then just a website, so putting a personal touch on your posts is a great way to get repeat traffic.”

2. The Missing Link

To build a blog post sans links is to miss the point entirely. Don’t do it.

3. Write Less, Say More

Blogging is not the right format for War And Peace-length missives. Instead, max out at around 500 words.

4. Say It with Bullets

Bullet points, that is. A bullet-point list draws the eye and makes the information easier to absorb.

5. Remember Your Spacing

Big blocks of text are difficult to read online. Instead, keep headlines, sentences and paragraphs snappy. Or, as George Orwell phrased it : “Never used a long word where a short one will do.”

6. Edit. Then Edit Again

As with any writing that’s going public, edit carefully to nix typos and cut away the waffle.

7. And Finally, SEO

Blogs are built for Search Engine Optimization (SEO). It would be a crying shame, then, to neglect your keywords when constructing your posts.
