Although Facebook and Twitter may be the new big hitters of social media, blogs are still a vital piece of the puzzle. How do you know if your blog is doing a good job?

Set goals for your blog and  use metrics  to make sure you’re hitting them. In particular, these are the metrics you need to assess success:

Count the Visits

Where do your visitors come from? Where do they go once they arrive on your site? As soon as you’ve got that figured out, you’ve got a pretty good idea of your target audience; then, you can set about attracting more of them.

RSS Feeds and Email Lists

Measure how many signups you’re getting for  your RSS feeds  and email subscriptions to determine if your blog is building an online following.

Search Rankings

Is your blog content improving your search ranking? Try using keywords to create relevant content that’ll help you hit the front page of every search engine in town and beyond.

Social Media Sharing

Don’t just count your social media shares; make a note of which platforms your readers are using. Are they Facebook fanatics or avid tweeters? Join your audience on their favorite social media outlet and watch your sharing statistics skyrocket.

Get Engaged

Which posts on your blog are getting your visitors excited? Encourage them to share commentary, comments, photos or videos of your product and enhance community engagement.

Post More

How much information is your blog generating? Make sure you’re creating fresh content on a regular basis to keep your customers interested.

Bear in mind that every blog doesn’t need to track every metric. Choose which ones are important to accomplishing your goals and focus on those.
